Arucas and Firgas (Gran Canaria, Canaries)

Tags

The other day I made another wonderful trip to discover Gran Canaria, I went to visit the towns of Arucas and Firgas.
As with all of my trips, the means of transport was the bus, that here in Spain is called guagua.

Arucas

The first goal of my trip was just Arucas, a town of about 30,000 inhabitants, very characteristic.

Arucas: Iglesia de San Juan Bautista

How to get to Arucas
To get to Arucas using public transport from Playa del Inglés have to take bus number 30 to San Telmo in Las Palmas, then you just take the number 205 or 210 bus.
The ride is not very long, but these are buses that make several stops, so allow at least a half hour journey.

Just arrived in Arucas can visit suffered its beautiful old town, made of typical Canarian colorful houses, and admire the picturesque church Iglesia de San Juan Bautista.
Then there is also the town hall with its Jardines Municipales and the Municipal Museum (free of course).
Not to mention La Casa de la Cultura.

And if you want to see Arucas in all its glory, with its church which dominates the whole country, you can just climb on the first climb you find.
Go up a bit ', and the landscape, weather permitting, will be truly breathtaking.

Another activity not to be missed is a visit to Arucas (always free) to Destilerias Arehucas, a famous distillery which produces rum.
The visit includes, in addition to the explanations in Spanish and English, even a taste (free) of a dozen rum ... to lose his head: p

Firgas

Strangely Firgas was not reported in my trusty guide lonely planet, yet Firgas is a village of all respect, not far from Arucas.

Firgas: Paseo di Gran Canaria

How to get to Firgas
To get to Firgas from Arucas just take the bus 211.
Unfortunately, the bus schedules are very sporadic, so I found myself having to decide whether to wait more than an hour, or take a replacement bus and get me a piece on foot ... needless to say I got the replacement bus (251 ) that led me to Cruz de Firgas, about 1 and a half km from Firgas.
Since then it is also the way downhill, so it was not very hard to arrive at their destination, except that you have to walk where they pass the cars ... and be careful with curves!
But at least when you do these walking routes, you can take pictures in places that otherwise you could not see.

Firgas, like any self-respecting country, has a historic center with many colorful houses, a typical church (Parish Church of San Roque), a charming fountain, and some small squares to shelter from the sun under a tree.
Firgas also has a street with a very special monument, the Paseo de Gran Canaria (Paseo de canarias).
Question of the representation of all the Canary Islands, with a lot of coats of arms.

As usual, when I see an uphill climb, I sling it.
So I could see from above, Firgas and everything that surrounds it.

Firgas by then, I was able to catch a direct bus to Las Palmas, and from there I went back to Playa de Ingles.

What about Arucas and Firgas, are two beautiful towns to visit in the day, two more gems of the resplendent island of Gran Canaria (read my post on Gran Canaria).

Obviously this time I made a lot of photos, below you will find the full photo album link.
